POWER STEERING OIL FEED TUBE - SAFETY RECALL CAMPAIGN
PURPOSE
Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America, INC. (MMSA) is voluntarily recalling Certain, affected 2000 model year Eclipse and Galant vehicles equipped with
the 3.0L V6 engine, to replace the oil feed tube on the power steering rack assembly. Under specific operating conditions, the power steering oil feed
tube may come in contact with the exhaust manifold mounted heat shield, causing a hole to be worn in this tube, thus allowing power steering fluid
leakage. Leaking power steering fluid will gradually result in a loss of steering assist, and possibly smoke and/or fire.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Safety Recall Campaign affects ONLY 3.0L V6 equipped, Federal (FED) Emissions certified vehicles.
2000 Eclipse 3.0L V6 produced between 3/25/99 and 7/5/00 (FED vehicles ONLY)
2000 Galant 3.0L V6 produced between 1/30/00 and 7/14/00 (FED vehicles ONLY)
CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION
A letter will be sent to all owners of affected vehicles telling them to bring their vehicle to their Mitsubishi Motors dealer to have the power steering oil
feed tube replaced. A copy of the customer notification letter is shown. There is no charge to the customer for this repair.
REQUIRED OPERATIONS
Before starting the PROCEDURES section of this bulletin, CHECK ON THE WARRANTY SUPERSCREEN to verify that the vehicle is an affected
VIN for this campaign and that this campaign procedure has not already been completed.
PARTS INFORMATION
A small supply of power steering oil feed tubes for the affected Federal emissions certified vehicles will be automatically shipped to dealers in states
where records show these vehicles are currently registered. Orders for additional tubes can be placed through the normal parts system.
