DOOR WINDOW ODOR
This bulletin supercedes TSB-01-42A-008, issued July, 2001, to revise the door cleaning procedure and increase warranty labor times. Revisions are
marked by -->.
PURPOSE
Some affected vehicles may experience a musty odor in the door window area. This condition is due to trapped moisture in the door sill contaminating
the door belt moulding. New inner and outer beltline mouldings made of improved material are available to eliminate this condition. Follow the
procedures in this bulletin to clean the door components and replace the inner and outer beltline mouldings on all doors.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
1999-2001 Galant models produced before 5/01
2000-2001 Eclipse models produced before 5/01
2001 Eclipse Spyder models produced before 5/01
PROCEDURE
1.
Lower the door window.
2.
Remove the door trim (inner door panel). Remove the inner beltline moulding from the door trim.
3.
Remove the door mirror.
4.
Remove the outer beltline moulding and the waterproof plastic film.

Spray undiluted rubbing alcohol onto the window regulator, window channel, inner metal door surfaces, wiring harnesses, door locks, back
side of door trim, and both sides of the waterproof plastic film. Thorough cleaning is required to prevent return of the odor. Wipe off as
necessary and allow to air dry.

Inspect door drain holes for blockage. Clean as necessary.
7.
Reconnect the power window switch and raise the door glass. Spray undiluted rubbing alcohol on both sides of the glass, and dry with paper
towels. Then lower the window again.
8.
Install the new inner and outer beltline mouldings listed in the PARTS INFORMATION section of this bulletin.
9.
Reinstall the door mirror.
10.
Reinstall the waterproof plastic film and the door trim.
11.
Repeat this procedure on the other door(s). Replace the inner and outer beltline mouldings on all doors.
