Roof Drip Moulding - Loose or Broken

SUBJECT:
LOOSE OR BROKEN ROOF DRIP MOULDING

PURPOSE

Some affected vehicles may have a loose or broken roof drip moulding along the front or rear windshield glass, caused by one or more clips breaking
and/or coming loose from the body. Applying a special adhesive under the clip will secure the moulding.

If a clip is broken, replace it (refer to the parts information section of this bulletin). Before installing a new or original clip, scuff-sand the clip and the
body contact area, then apply 3M 08101 Structural Adhesive or equivalent to the clip.

This bulletin contains detailed repair instructions for loose or broken roof drip mouldings for the front and rear windshield.

1999 Galant

PROCEDURE

1.

Remove the drip moulding from the A-pillar and/or C-pillar clips.

2.

Using masking tape, temporarily tape down the moulding to the windshield, to prevent damage while repairing the clips.

3.

Remove the loose or broken clips from the A-pillar and/or C-pillar.

a. If a clip is broken, replace it. Refer to the PARTS INFORMATION section of this bulletin.

4.

Using 100 or 120 grit sandpaper, scuff-sand the clip surface which contacts the body. Also lightly scuff-sand the area of the A-pillar and/or
C-pillar where the clip contacts the body.

CAUTION: 

Use care to prevent sanding through to the sheet metal.

5.

Clean the sanded clip and body surfaces with isopropyl alcohol and allow to dry.

6.

Apply 3M 08101 Structural Adhesive or equivalent to the clip.

7.

Install the clip into the original location.

8.

Apply two drops of quick-set adhesive (such as "SuperGlue") around the clip edges to provide initial adhesion until the Structural Adhesive is set
(takes about 30 minutes).

9.

Using a small knife, carefully remove a small amount (2-3 mm) of the urethane where the front drip moulding clips on the moulding side were
previously installed. There will be marks in the urethane which indicate the original clip location. Removing some of the urethane will help the
clips to properly seat under the glass.

10.

Reinstall the root drip moulding. After installation, use a trim stick to gently pry the moulding to verity that it is secure.
