CAUTION:  To prevent damage to scan tool MB991958, always turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or
disconnecting scan tool MB991958.

1. Connect scan tool MB991958. Refer to "How to connect the Scan Tool (M.U.T.-III)."  See: Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes/How

to Connect the Scan Tool (M.U.T.-III)

2. Turn the ignition switch from "LOCK" (OFF) position to "ON" position.
3. Check if DTC is set.
4. Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.

Q: Is the DTC set?

YES : Troubleshoot the ETACS-ECU.  See: Powertrain Management/Computers and Control Systems/Testing and Inspection/Diagnostic Trouble
Code Descriptions/ETACS

NO : Go to Step 2.

STEP 2. Column switch check

Check the continuity for windshield wiper and windshield washer switch.  See: Lighting and Horns/Sensors and Switches - Lighting and
Horns/Combination Switch/Testing and Inspection/Component Tests and General Diagnostics/Wiper/Washer Switch Continuity Check

Check the continuity for column switch (switch body part).  See: Lighting and Horns/Sensors and Switches - Lighting and Horns/Combination
Switch/Testing and Inspection/Component Tests and General Diagnostics/Column Switch (Switch Body Part) Continuity Check

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES : The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction. (Refer to How to use Troubleshooting/inspection sevice points - How to cope with
Intermittent Malfunction).

NO : Replace the column switch.
