Mirage L4-1468cc 1.5L SOHC 12 Valve (1996)
Seals and Gaskets: Service and Repair
1. Raise and support vehicle, then remove front wheels.
2. Remove cotter pin, wheel bearing nut and washer.
3. Disconnect lower control arm ball joint from knuckle using tool No.MB991113, or equivalent.
4. Disconnect tie rod end from knuckle using tool No. MB991113, or equivalent.
5. Disconnect center bearing snap ring if equipped.
6. On models without center bearing, proceed as follows:
a. Insert pry bar between transaxle case and driveshaft, then pry driveshaft from transaxle. Do not pull on driveshaft, or insert pry bar deep
enough to damage oil seal.
b. Remove driveshaft from hub using tool No. MB990241-01, or equivalent, then the circlip from driveshaft.
7. On models with center bearing, proceed as follows:
a. Remove driveshaft from transaxle by lightly tapping driveshaft outer race with a plastic hammer. Do not pull on driveshaft or insert pry bar
between transaxle case and driveshaft.
b. Remove driveshaft from hub by lightly tapping driveshaft end with plastic hammer.
c. Remove center bearing bracket attaching bolts, then the center bearing bracket and spacers. Remove seal.
8. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. On models with center bearing, press in driveshaft until center bearing comes in contact with center bearing bracket, then install snap ring
into center bearing bracket.
b. Lower vehicle to ground, then attach and adjust driveshaft nut. Tighten nut to specifications.
c. If cotter pin hole does not line up, tighten bolt until hole lines up. Do not exceed maximum tightening specification.
