Brake Rotor/Disc: Service and Repair

1.

Remove hub dust cap, then loosen driveshaft nut.

2.

Raise and support front of vehicle. Remove wheel and tire assembly, then the undercover.

3.

Remove cotter pin, then the wheel bearing nut and washer.

4.

Disconnect caliper assembly from knuckle, then tie and suspend brake line from strut.

5.

Disconnect lower control arm ball joint from knuckle, using tool No. MB991113 or equivalent. Loosen but do not remove attaching nut.

6.

Remove tie rod end cotter pin, then disconnect tie rod end from knuckle, using tool No. MB991113 or equivalent. Loosen but do not remove
attaching nut.

7.

Remove stabilizer bar, then the driveshaft.

8.

Remove retaining clips from driveshaft ends, then remove strut assembly attaching bolts.

9.

Remove hub and knuckle assembly.

10.

Attach knuckle arm bridge tool No. MB991056, or equivalent and front hub remover tool No. MB990998-01, or equivalent on knuckle and front
hub.

11.

Secure knuckle in vise.

12.

Ensure tools are installed correctly, tighten tool nut while holding bolt to remove front hub from knuckle.

13.

Remove bolts securing rotor to front hub assembly.

14.

Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Install disc rotor onto front hub and tighten securing bolts to specification.
b. Install front hub installer tool No. MB990998-01, or equivalent and tighten nut to insert front hub into knuckle.
c. After front hub has been completely inserted, torque tool nut to 144-188 ft. lbs.
d. Rotate front hub to seat bearings.
e. Using front hub installer tool No. MB990998-01, or equivalent ensure starting torque is 11 inch lbs.
