SUBJECT:
KNOCKING NOISE HEARD
FROM FRONT SUSPENSION
PURPOSE
This Technical Service Bulletin describes how to correct a knocking noise heard from the front suspension of some 1989 and 1990 Mirage vehicles.
DESCRIPTION
On 1989-90 Mirages, the front lower control arm might make contact with the frame, producing a knocking noise when shifting through the gears or
going over bumps. The noise may be caused by a lower control arm bushing that has slipped out of place.
To prevent the condition from occuring, the outside flange of the bushing has been increased from 38 mm to 42 mm. This production modification
occurred on all Mirage vehicles produced after September, 1989.
For 1989-90 model Mirages produced before September 1989, replace both lower control arm bushings to stop the noise. Replacement bushings contain
the wider (42 mm) outer flange that will eliminate slippage. Refer to the 1989 Mirage Service Manual, Volume 1, Pages 2-40/2-41, and the 1990 Mirage
Service Manual, Volume 1, Pages 33-12/33-13, for bushing replacement instructions.
