REVERSE GEAR ENGAGEMENT
PURPOSE
This bulletin provides information on the two types of reverse shift levers and corresponding reverse idler gears that were used in 1989 Mirage and 1989
Sigma vehicles equipped with manual transmissions.
It is important to correctly identify these parts when replacement becomes necessary, as they cannot be mixed. The original style reverse idler gear is no
longer available and MUST be replaced with the new style reverse idler gear and the new style reverse shift lever.
PARTS INFORMATION
Vehicles produced from July 2, 1988 have an updated reverse shift lever and reverse idler gear. As shown below the updated reverse shift lever is
identified with an "A" and the reverse gear has 4 identification grooves.
The original style reverse idler gear and reverse shift lever do not have such identification marks.
