Valve Clearance: Adjustments
Jet Valve, Adjust
Adjust jet valve clearance before adjusting intake valve clearance. Cylinder head bolts should be retorqued before attempting jet valve adjustment. Jet
valve clearance should be adjusted with the corresponding intake valve adjusting screw completely loosened.

1.
Ensure engine is at normal operating temperature (185° - 205°F).
2.
Position No. 1 cylinder to TDC of compression stroke and adjust No. 1 and 2 jet valves.
3.
On engines less hydraulic valve lash adjusters, loosen intake valve adjusting screw two or more turns.
4.
On all engines, loosen locknut on jet valve adjusting screw.
5.
Loosen jet valve adjusting screw and place a .010 inch feeler gauge between top end of jet valve stem and bottom end of adjusting screw, Fig. 15.
6.
Turn adjusting screw clockwise until bottom end of adjusting screw touches feeler gauge.
7.
While holding adjusting screw in position, tighten locknut.
8.
Using the feeler gauge, ensure jet valve clearance is .010 inch, Fig. 15.
9.
Position No. 4 cylinder to TDC of compression stroke and adjust No. 3 and 4 jet valves in take same manner.
