A/C IDLER PULLEY NOISE
PURPOSE
The A/C idler pulley may cause a pinging or knocking noise during acceleration, especially under moderate load at about 2,000 engine rpm. A new,
redesigned A/C idler pulley is available to eliminate the noise.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
1993-96 Mirage models equipped with 4G93 1.8L engine
PROCEDURE
1.
Confirm that the noise is coming from the A/C idler pulley:
a. With the engine off, remove the A/C compressor drive belt.
CAUTION
This will disable the power steering pump. Use care during test drive to steer the vehicle.
b. Test drive the vehicle. Listen for a pinging or knocking noise during acceleration at about 2,000 engine rpm. If the noise continues, refer to the
diagnosis information in Section 11 and/or Section 17 of the 1993-96 Mirage service manual.

If the noise is not heard during the test drive, replace the A/C idler pulley using the pulley listed in the PARTS INFORMATION section of this
bulletin.
3.
Reinstall the A/C compressor drive belt.
