FRONT SUSPENSION "POP" OR "SQUEAK"
(INSTALL COIL SPRING INSULATORS)
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
On some 1989-94 Mirages, customers may complain of a front suspension popping or squeaking noise when driving over bumpy surfaces. The
popping/squeaking may originate from the upper and lower front coil spring seat areas. To correct the condition, install coil spring insulators as
described in this bulletin.

DESCRIPTION
If a customer complains of a squeaking noise coming from their vehicle's front suspension, perform the following procedure to verify and correct the
condition. If the vehicle is out of warranty, this is a "customer pay" procedure and you must obtain customer approval before disassembling or replacing
vehicle components.
WARNING:
Observe all highway and shop safety practices while performing the procedure.
NOTE:
Obtain the following materials before performing the procedure:

Volume 1 of the appropriate vehicle's service manual

Coil Spring Insulators, Part Number: MR130167, Quantity Needed: 4

Black Weatherstrip Adhesive (3M # 8008 or equivalent)

Test-drive the vehicle over a bumpy surface to verify the front suspension squeaking noise. After confirming the noise, go to Step 3.
If the noise is not confirmed by the test drive, return the vehicle to the shop and manually bounce each side of the front bumper until the noise is
heard. If the noise is still not confirmed, raise the vehicle on a suitable shop hoist and visually inspect the upper and lower front coil spring seats. If
rust or corrosion is found in these areas, proceed to Step 3. Otherwise, go to Step 2.

If the squeaking noise cannot be duplicated and there is no evidence of rust or corrosion in the front coil spring seat areas, inspect front suspension
components (especially bushings) for abnormal wear or damage. Repair or replace these components as needed.

Remove both front strut assemblies from the vehicle. Refer to Volume 1 of the Service Manual for specific instructions.
