LOOSE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY BOLT - SAFETY RECALL CAMPAIGN
PURPOSE
Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America, Inc. is voluntarily recalling certain 1997-1999 Mirage vehicles for a possible loose crankshaft pulley bolt.
If the engine has a serial number of TE1644 or below, dealers must remove the crankshaft pulley bolt, tap the hole, and install a new, longer bolt. On
engines with later serial numbers, the bolt must be removed and reinstalled as described in this bulletin.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
If the crankshaft pulley bolt was not properly tightened during vehicle production, it could break and cause the crankshaft pulley to fall out of the
vehicle, resulting in loss of power steering assist.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
1997-1999 Mirage models equipped with 1.5L engine produced before 2/12/99
