A letter has been sent to 1991-93 Montero owners (only to areas where dealers have purchased the affected hitch from MMSA), whether or not a
Mitsubishi Motors Authorized Accessory hitch is installed on their vehicle. A sample customer notification letter is shown in this bulletin.
If a notified owner has a trailer hitch installed on their vehicle, they are instructed to look at the hitch design and determine if it is affected by this Safety
Recall.
If a customer identifies an effected trailer hitch, they are instructed to return their vehicle, along with the hitch bar, to their Mitsubishi Motors dealer for
hitch replacement. Should a customer request that a dealer replace the hitch installed on their vehicle, dealers should determine the hitch type prior to
hitch replacement.
Trailer hitches not marketed or identified as a Mitsubishi Motors Authorized Accessory, such as aftermarket hitches, are not covered.

Only 1991-93 Montero vehicles with a Mitsubishi Motors Authorized Accessory trailer hitch (manufactured through January 1993) are affected by this
Safety Recall.
