FRONT BRAKE HOSE REPLACEMENT - SAFETY RECALL CAMPAIGN
PURPOSE
Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America, Inc. is voluntarily recalling certain 1994 Monteros to correct a situation which under certain circumstances could
affect the safety of the vehicle. MMSA dealers must replace both the left and right front lower brake hoses as described in this bulletin.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Under certain steering conditions combined with full suspension travel, one or both indicated front lower brake hoses can crack, resulting in brake fluid
leakage, reduction of braking efficiency, and illumination of the brake warning lamp.
Both front lower brake hoses on all affected vehicles must be replaced. A paint mark must be applied to the indicated location on each new brake hose
fitting, to identify the vehicle as being repaired according to the instructions in this recall bulletin.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
1994 Montero models produced between 2/1/94 and 2/11/94
CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION
A letter will be sent to all owners of affected vehicles telling them to bring their vehicle to their Mitsubishi Motors dealer to have the brake hoses
replaced. A copy of the customer notification letter appears later in this bulletin.
REQUIRED OPERATIONS
Before starting the PROCEDURE section of this bulletin, CHECK ON THE WARRANTY SUPERSCREEN to verify that the vehicle is an affected
VIN for this campaign and that this campaign procedure has not already been completed.
PROCEDURE
When replacing the brake hoses, refer to Group 35 in the 1992-95 Montero service manual for removal and installation instructions.
1. Raise the vehicle.
2. Disconnect the brake hose from the front brake tube. Do not drain the brake fluid.
3. Plug the brake line to prevent leakage and brake fluid loss.
4. Remove the indicated brake hoses and replace with the new hoses listed in the PARTS INFORMATION section of this bulletin.
5. Torque the hose fittings to 15 Nm (11 ft.lbs.)
6. Fill the brake system to replace any fluid that may have leaked out during the hose changing procedures and bleed the brakes according to the
