Power Steering Pressure Switch: Description and Operation
PURPOSE
Power Steering Pressure Switch is a Contact Switch type unit which sends a signal to the ECM when the steering wheel is turned at slow speeds
(loading down the power steering pump and the engine). The ECM commands the idle speed to be raised in response to the signal from the Power
Steering Pressure Switch.
OPERATION
The battery positive voltage in the engine control module is applied through a resistor to the power steering pressure switch. Steering operation
causes the power steering fluid pressure to increase, turning the switch on. As a result, continuity is produced between the battery positive terminal
and the ground. This causes the power steering fluid pressure terminal voltage to go from high to low.
