PROCEDURE

Refer to the diagnosis chart in this bulletin.

See the PARTS INFORMATION section of this bulletin for steering gear box and steering column part numbers.

Steering gear boxes produced before 12/15/94 (previous design) have more input shaft free play than steering gear boxes produced since 12/15/94
(new design). Part numbers of the previous and new design steering gear box are the same. Do not replace the steering gear box for steering
column vibration or knocking noise if the box was produced on or after 12/15/94.

Refer to section 37A of the appropriate Montero service manual for steering gear box replacement instructions.

3.

Part numbers of the previous and new design steering column are the same. Steering columns produced before 11/8/95 (previous design) have only
two weld points at the area shown. Steering columns produced since 11/8/95 (new design) have three weld points as shown.
