ELIMINATION OF FUEL TANK FILLER TUBE VALVE/FLAP
PURPOSE
This bulletin contains information concerning the elimination of the fuel tank filler tube valve/flap on certain Mitsubishi vehicles.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Some new Mitsubishi vehicles have a new-design Onboard Refueling Vapor Recovery (ORVR) system (a part of the EVAP systems) which does not
have a flap/valve in the fuel tank filler tube. This new system is able to meet all EVAP requirements without the flap/valve. On some of these vehicles,
the fuel tank filler cap is also changed from a screw-on type to a 1/4 turn cap.

2001 and later Eclipse, Eclipse Spyder, and Galant
2001 and later Montero Sport
2002 and later Montero
2002 and later Lancer
DETAILS
The new-style fuel tank filler tube without the flap/valve is utilized according the the following schedule:

Eclipse, Eclipse Spyder, and Galant - from initial 2001 model year production
^
Montero Sport - from initial 2001 model year production
^
Montero - from initial 2002 model year production
^
Lancer - from initial 2002 model year production
NOTE:
The Mirage, which ceases production after the 2002 model year, uses the previous system with the fuel filler pipe flap.
The Diamante will continue to use the previous system with the flap at least until the end of the 2003 model year.
