Montero Sport LS 2WD V6-3.0L SOHC (1998)
1.
On Montero Sport models, remove the undercover and skid plate.
On Montero models, remove the undercover only.
2.
Remove the cooling fan lower shroud.
3.
Use special tool MB991367-O1 spanner wrench (use with MIT217213 pins for Montero Sport; use with MIT217212 pins for Montero) and a 22
mm socket to hold the crankshaft pulley in place. Remove the crankshaft pulley bolt
CAUTION
USE CARE TO PREVENT DAMAGING THE FAN.

Inspect the crankshaft pulley bolt.
a.
If the bolt is damaged, replace it (see PARTS INFORMATION section of this bulletin). Then continue with Step 5 below.
b.
If the bolt is NOT damaged, go to Step 5.
5.
Clean the crankshaft pulley bolt hole, the bolt, and washer with compressed air.
6.
Apply engine oil to the bolt threads and between the washer and the bolt head face as shown.
7.
Reinstall the crankshaft pulley bolt. Torque to 182 +/- 4 Nm (134 +/- 3 ft/lbs).
8.
Reinstall the lower shroud.
9.
Reinstall the undercover and skid plate.
