LOOSE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY BOLT
- SAFETY RECALL CAMPAIGN
PURPOSE
Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America, Inc. is voluntarily recalling certain affected vehicles for a possible loose crankshaft pulley bolt. The bolt must be
removed and reinstalled as described in this bulletin.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
If the crankshaft pulley bolt was not properly tightened during vehicle production, it could break and cause the crankshaft pulley to fall out of the
vehicle, resulting in loss of power steering assist.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
1997-1999 Montero Sport models equipped with 3.0L engine produced 8/96 - 3/99
1992-1996 Montero models equipped with 3.0L engine produced 1/91 - 1/96
CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION
A letter will be sent to all owners of affected vehicles telling them to bring their vehicle to their Mitsubishi Motors dealer to have the crankshaft pulley
bolt inspected. A copy of the customer notification letter is shown.
REQUIRED OPERATIONS
Before starting the PROCEDURE section of this bulletin, CHECK ON THE WARRANTY SUPERSCREEN to verify that the vehicle is an affected
VIN for this campaign and that this campaign procedure has not already been completed.
Remove the crankshaft pulley bolt as follows:
