SUBJECT:
TIRE VIBRATION (265/70R15 TIRES)

This bulletin supercedes TSB-98-31-001, to correct the affected tires listed under the "Affected Vehicles" section of the bulletin.

PURPOSE
If a customer complains of vibration throughout the vehicle, most noticeably in the driver's seat, it could be due to tire vibration.

AFFECTED VEHICLES
1997-98 Montero Sport models equipped with original equipment 265/70R15 tires

PROCEDURE

1.

Verify that tires are inflated to proper pressure.

2.

Check and re-balance tires as necessary.

3.

Test drive the vehicle. If vibration continues or is only slightly reduced, continue with this procedure.

NOTE

Before removing any tire and wheel assembly, mark the tire location (left front, right front, etc.) and the stud orientation to the wheel.

4.

Install the spare tire assembly in place of the left front tire assembly, then test drive.

5.

If vibration continues, return the left front tire to its original position. Then install the spare tire assembly in place of the right front tire assembly.
Test drive again.

6.

If the vibration continues, swap the left front tire assembly and the left rear tire assembly. Leave the spare tire in the right front position. Test drive
again.

7.

Continue swapping tire locations to try to isolate one or two tires that may be contributing to the vibration.

8.

If the vibration condition is still not eliminated after this procedure, contact the tire manufacturer at the phone number listed in the tire information
brochure and explain the results of your diagnosis to them. Based on your results, they will directly provide one or two replacement tires as
needed.
