AUDIO SPEAKER ABNORMAL NOISE
This bulletin supersedes TSB-99-54-003, to add 2000 Montero Sport models. New information is marked by "-->".
PURPOSE
Affected vehicles may experience a high frequency noise from the audio speaker. The noise is caused by interference from the A/T solenoid control in
the body side harness. Customers may complain of a humming sound coming from the door speaker (tweeter) when the audio is set to low volume. This
condition can occur with the ignition key on and the engine either on or off.
To eliminate the noise, install a noise filter as described in this bulletin.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
-->1999 and 2000 Montero Sport models equipped with automatic transmission and Infinity audio system
PROCEDURE
1.
Remove the body side harness from the A/T control relay, located behind the front passenger side kick panel.
2.
Install the noise filter (listed in the PARTS INFORMATION section of this bulletin) between the body side harness and the A/T control relay.
3.
Secure the noise filter to the harness using vinyl tape.
