PCM REPROGRAMMING
FOR ENGINE HESITATION/
DTC P0154

This TSB supercedes TSB-04-13-002, issued March, 2004, to include reflash databases for additional 1999-2000 model PCMs. 

PURPOSE

Incorrect PCM software parameters may cause poor driveability, engine hesitation and/or oxygen sensor failure (Diagnostic Trouble Code P0154). To
eliminate this condition, reprogram the PCM as described in this bulletin.

If DTC P0154 is set, replace the oxygen sensor after PCM reprogramming. See Step 13 of this bulletin.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

1999-2003 Montero Sport models equipped with 3.0L and 3.5L engine

PROCEDURE

CAUTION

BATTERY VOLTAGE (AS MEASURED AT THE BATTERY POSTS WITHOUT ELECTRICAL LOAD) MUST BE 12.4V OR HIGHER IN
ORDER TO REPROGRAM THE PCM.

1.

Check the underside of the hood to verify that there is no label previously installed to indicate that this TSB reprogramming has already been done.

2.

Verify that the vehicle's PCM part number is listed in Attachment A of this bulletin. If it is not listed in Attachment A, do not attempt to reprogram
the PCM.

a.

Also verify whether the ROM ID is the same as the ROM ID listed in Attachment A. If the ROM ID is the same as or higher than the ROM
ID in Attachment A, the PCM has already been reprogrammed for this concern.

3.

Use the MUT-III to erase all DTCs set in the PCM.

4.

Verify that your MUT-III has the most current version of the reprogramming database:

a.

Select "Special Function", then select "ECU Reprogramming." 

b.

Select "Database File Display". The database version is displayed in the top right corner of the screen. Make sure the database version is
N04061 or greater. This database is on MUTIII / STV version 10.0 and higher.

c.

If the database version is less than N04061, go to Step 5. 

d.

f the database version is N04061 or greater, go to Step 7.

5.

Turn the ignition key to OFF and disconnect the MUT-III.

6.

Gather the following reprogramming equipment:
