(2000-2004 MODEL YEARS) Check the transmission serial number:

a.
If the serial number is between AV5231 and CY8513, continue with Step 3.

b.
If the transmission serial number is before AV5231 or after CY8513, do not continue with this bulletin procedure. Refer to the
troubleshooting information in Group 23 of the appropriate service manual.
3.
Verify the 2-3 upshift flare as follows. Use the MUT-III to monitor the ATF temperature.
a.
With the Apr selector lever in L or D2, drive the vehicle until the ATF temperature reaches at least 176 degrees F (80 degrees C) on the scan
tool data list.
b.
Stop the engine and allow the transmission to cool until the ATF temperature reaches below 86 degrees F (30 degrees C) on the scan tool
data list. It may take overnight for sufficient cooldown.
c.
Test drive the vehicle and check for shift flare during the 2nd-to-3rd gear upshift.
d.
If 2-3 upshift flare is NOT evident, do not continue with this bulletin procedure. Refer to Group 23 in the appropriate service manual for
troubleshooting and repair procedures.
e.
If 2-3 upshift flare is evident, continue driving until the ATF is over 122 degrees F (50 degrees C).
IMPORTANT:
The ATF must be over 122 degrees F (50 degrees C) because the PCM starts correcting the shift flare only when the ATF reaches this
temperature.
f.
Be sure the Apr upshifts from 2nd to 3rd gear ten times after 122 degrees F (50 degrees C) ATF temperature is reached. After the tenth upshift,
check to verify whether the 2-3 upshift flare is eliminated.

If the upshift flare is eliminated after shifting at least ten times with the ATF at least 122 degrees F (50 degrees C), replace the valve body
with the new, improved part listed below.

If the upshift flare is not eliminated, troubleshoot for a transmission problem not related to the valve body. Refer to Group 23 in the
appropriate service manual for troubleshooting and repair procedures.
