Montero Sport XS 2WD V6-3.5L SOHC (2001)
Radiator: Recalls
Campaign - Radiator Replacement
No.: SC-01-001
DATE: September, 2001
MODEL: 2001 Montero
SUBJECT:
A/T COOLER CRACKING
- SERVICE CAMPAIGN
PURPOSE
On affected vehicles, the automatic transmission cooler is integrated into the lower radiator tank. The cooling plates in the cooler could crack, causing
automatic transmission fluid to enter the radiator and/or coolant to enter the transmission. This condition could cause the engine or transmission to
malfunction, resulting in erratic shining, engine or transmission warning lamps coming on, and/or unusual engine noises.
^
On all affected vehicles, install a new, improved radiator as described in this Bulletin. (Vehicles produced since 12/27/00 already have the improved
radiator.)
^
If inspection reveals that ATF has entered the radiator, flush the engine cooling system.
^
If inspection reveals that coolant has entered the transmission, replace the transmission assembly and torque converter, and flush the A/T cooler lines
and tubes.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
