Montero SR 4WD V6-3.5L DOHC (1995)
Idle Speed: Testing and Inspection
Pre-Inspection Conditions
-
Engine coolant temperature: 80-95°C (176-203°F)
-
Lights and all accessories: OFF
-
Transmission: Neutral (P for A/T)
-
Check the basic ignition timing (with ignition timing adjustment terminal grounded):
Standard value: 5° BTDC ±3°
-
After turning the ignition switch to OFF, connect a tachometer to the ignition or a scan tool to the data link connector (white).
Engine Speed Detection Connector
To attach a primary voltage detection-type tachometer:
-
Insert a paper clip into the engine speed detection connector (blue), and then connect a tachometer to the paper clip.
-
Connect a primary voltage detection-type tachometer to the paper clip.
-
Start the engine and run it at idle.
-
Run the engine at idle for 2 minutes.
-
Check the idle speed.
Curb Idle Speed: 7OO ±1OO rpm
NOTES:
-
The idle speed is adjusted automatically by the idle speed control system.
-
The engine speed indicated on the tach is a third of actual speed. To get the actual engine rpm, multiply the tach reading by 3.
-
If there is a deviation from the specified value refer to the Fuel Delivery and Air Induction section for information on diagnosis of the Multiport
Fuel Injection components.
