REAR BRAKE SQUEAK
PURPOSE
This bulletin contains instructions for eliminating a squeaking noise from the rear brakes on 2001 Montero vehicles
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Symptom
Customers may complain of a squeaking noise from the rear brake when braking.
Cause
This squeaking noise may be caused by improper shimmed rear brake pads. The original rear brake system on the 2001 Montero used one shim per brake
pad set.
Remedy
A new shim set with 3 shims per wheel is available to correct this rear brake squeaking condition. On a customer complaint basis ONLY, replace the rear
brake shim set to eliminate this squeaking condition.

PROCEDURE
Referring to Group 35 in the service manual and service manual revision TSB-02-35-002, replace the single shim on each brake pad set with the 3 shims
for each pad set contained in the new shim set (MR510546). See the illustration below for brake pad assembly configuration.
