Heater Core: Service and Repair
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
2.
Place temperature control lever in extreme right position.
3.
Loosen radiator drain plug and drain cooling system.
4.
Remove air filter, then remove hose clamps and disconnect heater hoses from heater core.
5.
Open glove box, then remove attaching screws and glove box.
6.
On vehicles less radio, push out radio plug plate from inside glove box opening.
7.
On vehicles with radio, remove radio as previously described.
8.
On all models, remove heater fan switch plug, the pull out fan switch knob and control lever knobs.
9.
Remove instrument cluster as previously described.
10.
Remove ashtray and ashtray bracket attaching screws, then remove panel from lower left corner of cluster panel.
11.
Disconnect wiring harness, then remove cluster panel.
12.
Remove center console attaching screws, then disconnect wiring harness and remove console.
13.
On models with tilt steering, position column in lowest position.
14.
On all models, remove steering wheel, then the steering column cover.
15.
Remove center air outlet attaching screws, spring washers and plain washers from outlets, then remove center air outlets.
16.
Remove instrument panel attaching screws from radio, ashtray and cluster openings, then remove instrument pad upper cover and instrument pad.
17.
Remove heater duct, then the center ventilator duct.
18.
Remove defroster duct, then the center reinforcement.
19.
Remove heater unit and grommet, then separate heater core from heater unit.
20.
Reverse procedure to install.
