6.
Verify that when no voltage is applied and the other nipple is open vacuum does not leak.
Fig. 148 Testing secondary air control solenoid valve
7.
Measure the solenoid coil resistance with an ohm meter, Fig. 148 and verify that it is between 36 and 44 ohms at 20 degrees C or 68 degrees F.
Secondary Air Control Valve
Fig. 144 Testing secondary air control valve
1.
Remove the secondary air control valve.
2.
Blow air into the air cleaner side and verify that the valve is leak tight.
3.
Connect a hand vacuum pump to the secondary air control valve nipple, Fig. 144.
4.
Apply a vacuum of 67 kPa (20 in. Hg) and verify that the diaphragm chamber is leak tight.
5.
Apply 20 kPa (6 in. Hg) of vacuum and verify that it is possible to blow air through the valve from the air cleaner side to the exhaust manifold side
but it is not possible to blow air from the exhaust side to the intake manifold side.
6.
If the secondary air control valve fails any of the above tests replace it. When re-installing or replacing the secondary air control valve tighten to
50-60 Nm (37-44 ft. lbs.).
