1.
Disconnect the air supply hose from the air cleaner and hold a small steel plate at the disconnected hose end to check for suction, Fig. 142.
2.
Verify that when the engine is cold (coolant temperature less than 20 degrees C or 68 degrees F) vacuum is present at idle.
3.
Allow the engine to warm up (coolant temperature greater than 70 degrees C or 158 degrees F) and verify that for 70 seconds after engine start
suction is present and then stops after 70 seconds has elapsed.
4.
Accelerate the engine to 4,000 rpm and verify that during a rapid deceleration suction is present.
CAUTION: If the reed valve is broken exhaust gases may backstream into the air supply hose.
