Altitude Compensator: Description and Operation
Fig. 11 Installation of high altitude compensation
California vehicles are equipped with a high altitude compensation system, Fig. 11. The system consists of a high-altitude compensator (HAC), passages
for additional bleed air and additional jet air, and a vacuum delay valve on vehicles with automatic transmissions.
HAC
Proper fuel/air ratio at high-altitude is maintained by the HAC by supplying additional bleed air into the primary main fuel well through a valve
controlled by an aneroid bellows of the HAC.
ADDITIONAL JET AIR
To further compensate the fuel/air ratio for engine idling and ligh load operation additional air is supplied into the jet air passage for the Jet Valve
System.
