MODEL 1983-85 Diesel Trucks
PURPOSE This bulletin contains instructions for installing turbocharger replacement parts on diesel trucks.
PARTS AVAILABLE Parts available include compressor covers, turbine housings and "cartridges" containing the turbine and compressor wheels and
bearings. Thus, it is possible to replace individual components when replacement of the entire turbocharger is not needed.
REMOVAL Steps 1-3
1.
Disconnect the breather hose from the rocker cover.
2.
Loosen the air intake hose clamps, and then disconnect and remove the air intake hose from the compressor cover and the air cleaner cover.
3.
Remove three bolts attaching the heat protector to the vehicle.
Steps 4-6
4.
On 1984-85 trucks, disconnect two vacuum hoses from the inlet fitting.
5.
On 1984-85 trucks, remove two bolts holding the EGR valve assembly to the inlet fitting.

Remove the air inlet fitting and air hose.
7.
Remove the oil supply pipe. (Fig. 1)
8.
Remove the inner heat protector.
9.
Remove the coupling connecting the compressor cover and turbine housing.
10.
Pull the compressor cover and turbine cartridge straight out of the turbine housing, taking care not to damage the turbine wheel.
