INTRODUCTION If a 1984 model Federal high-altitude gasoline-engine truck or Montero is to be sold in a low-altitude area, the vehicle must first be
modified by installing a kit containing a carburetor air bleed screw hole plug and a vehicle emission control information update label.

PROCEDURE
1.
Remove the air cleaner and rubber air cleaner gasket.
2.
To reach the air bleed screw, remove the steel ring from the carburetor air horn. Use an impact driver to loosen the screws securing the ring. Set
aside the air cleaner gasket, steel ring, and screws for reinstallation later.
3.
Remove and discard the air bleed screw, and install the air bleed screw hole plug from the kit.

Reinstall the steel ring, two screws, rubber air cleaner gasket and air cleaner.
5.
Install the Vehicle Emission Control Information Update Label. The location for trucks is shown in Figure 3. The location for Monteros is shown
in Figure 4.
