ENGINE MISFIRE AT IDLE
PURPOSE
Some affected vehicles may exhibit an occasional engine misfire at idle and the customer may report a rough idle. If the misfire exceeds parameters, the
malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) will illuminate and DTCs for the affected cylinders (P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0305, P0306) will be
stored in memory. The cause is due to uneven wear on the face of the valves due to valve locks (keepers) preventing the valves from rotating. This TSB
provides instructions to diagnose the condition and install revised valve locks (keepers) and intake valves.

Diagnosis
NOTE:
Cylinder # 3 is the most likely cylinder to have a misfire at idle. It is very rare for a cylinder on bank # 2 to exhibit a misfire at idle due to the
valve locks preventing the valves from rotating.
NOTE:
When monitoring which cylinder is misfiring, misfire counts should be above 10 per minute on the suspect cylinder.
NOTE:
Monitors on Raider vehicles is disabled when the fuel level reads very low. Insure that the Low Fuel indicator lamp is not illuminated before
attempting to monitor misfire counts.
1.
Place the vehicle in park or neutral.
2.
Connect the MUT III, start the engine and monitor which cylinder is misfiring by reviewing the Misfire Counts.

From the Raider STV Main Menu select System Select, then select PCM.

From the PCM Menu, select OBD-II Monitor.

From the OBD-II Monitor Menu, select "Monitor List."
