PROCEDURE
NOTE:
New fasteners must be used when performing this Repair Procedure
1.
Confirm that the noise is isolated to the intermediate steering shaft.
2.
Loosen the Center Bearing and Toe Plate attaching nuts (fig.1). Check for the sound by rotating the steering wheel.
3.
Rotate the steering wheel about 30 degrees to the left and to the right a few times. Bring the steering wheel to its center position. This should help
the Center Bearing and Toe Plate find its center position.
4.
While making sure that the steering wheel and steering column do not move from their center position tighten the nuts used to secure the Center

5.
Recheck for the condition when rotating the steering wheel left and right. Is the condition present?
If YES - proceed to step 6.
If NO - the repair is complete.
6.
Loosen the pinch bolt connecting the intermediate steering shaft to the steering column (fig. 1).
7.
Move the intermediate steering shaft connection up towards the steering column until it physically stops. Using a new pinch bolt hand start the
pinch bolt in the joint. Tighten the pinch bolt to 58 Nm (43 ft. lbs.).
8.
Recheck for the condition when rotating the steering wheel left and right. Is the condition present?
If YES - proceed to step 9.
If NO - the repair is complete.
