Refrigerant Oil: Technical Service Bulletins
A/C - Adding Refrigerant Oil
SUBJECT:
ADDING REFRIGERANT OIL
NO.
STB-84-24-003
DATE August 1984
MODELAll With A/C
It is important that the air conditioning system contain exactly the correct amount of refrigerant oil as specified in the Service Manual. If there is a
surplus of oil in the system, too much oil will circulate with the refrigerant, reducing the cooling capacity of the system. Too little oil will result in poor
lubrication of the compressor.
When it is necessary to replace a component of the air conditioning system, the procedures in this bulletin must be followed to assure that the total oil
charge in the system is correct after the new part is installed. To maintain the original total oil charge, it is necessary to compensate for the variation of
oil by adding or removing the oil in the new replacement part. The amounts of oil to be added or drained will vary with the components and are shown In
Table I. Clean refrigeration oil should be used.
It is not necessary to add or remove oil when replacing valves or hoses.
