ABRASIVE COATED BRAKE PADS, ALL MODELS
During brake inspection and repair, if conditions are found on brake rotors which will require machining for correction, an alternate solution is now
available. Nissan abrasive coated brake pads can be installed. During the first 500 miles of operation with these pads, the abrasive coating will grind off
any irregularities on the rotors normally removed by machining.
Characteristics of Abrasive Coated Brake Pads
The Nissan abrasive coated brake pad consists of a standard brake pad coated with a very thin layer of abrasive material. Depending on how often and
how long the brakes are used, the abrasive layer wears out during the first 500 miles, leaving the standard brake pad for continued use.
CAUTIONS:
1. If abrasive pads are required for the rear brakes, they should also be installed on the front brakes, to prevent rear
wheel lockup.
2.
After installing abrasive pads, test drive the vehicle and advise the owner that squealing and vibrations may
temporarily occur. These symptoms are normal and will decrease gradually as the abrasive coating wears away
and the normal pads are exposed.
3.
Advise the vehicle owner that due to the abrasive coating which increases the coefficient of friction, brake pedal
effort will be reduced. After the coating wears out, the brake pedal effort will be normal.
Refer to the appropriate Service Manual for installation instructions. Use Special Nissan Brake Grease (PDC and Silicone) when installing new parts.
