Position the special tool to hold band strut in place against the band while removing the servo piston and rod. (See Figure 2. Another wedging tool
may be used to hold the special tool in place.)

5.

Remove the servo piston retainer, servo piston and servo piston rod.

6.

Remove and discard the old servo piston spring.

Assembly

NOTE:

Dip the new servo piston spring in clean transmission fluid before assembling.

7.

Install the new servo piston spring (P/N 31621-X8604).

8.

Install the servo piston, retainer and rod.

9.

Remove the special tool and screwdriver.

10.

Install the valve body.

11.

Loosen the band servo piston stem locknut.

12.

Torque the stem to 9-11 ft.lbs., with a torque wrench.

13.

Back off adjustment two complete turns.

CAUTION: Do not EXCESSIVELY back off the adjusting stem as the anchor block may fall out of place if this adjustment is made with the

transmission in the vehicle.

14.

Tighten the locknut to approximately 15 ft.lbs., while holding the adjusting stem stationary.

15.

Install the oil pan with a new gasket. Then refill to the proper level with new transmission fluid.
