Brake Adjuster Installation

4. Apply brake grease to adjuster as shown.

5. Install adjuster and adjuster lever; then install upper return spring and adjuster spring as shown.
6. Connect parking brake cable to toggle lever. Be careful not to damage brake cable and wheel cylinder piston boots.
7. Install shoes on wheel cylinder one at a time and secure shoes with shoe hold-down pins and retainer.

Do not allow the piston to spring away when assembling.

Be careful not to damage wheel cylinder piston boots.    

8. Install lower return spring.

9. Check all parts are installed properly. Ensure the direction of adjuster assembly is correct.   

10. Install brake drum.
11. When installing new wheel cylinder or overhauling wheel cylinder, bleed air from the hydraulic system. See: Brake Bleeding/Service and Repair 
12. Ensure proper parking brake lining/drum clearance. See: Parking Brake System/Parking Brake Lever/Adjustments
