Expansion Valve: Service and Repair

    When replacing evaporator, add 2.7 oz. of new refrigerant oil on 300ZX or 2.4 oz. on all other models.

Disconnect battery ground cable and discharge A/C system.

2.

Disconnect refrigerant lines to evaporator, and plug lines and open fittings.

3.

Remove right hand lower dash panel.

4.

Remove screw securing glove box door stop and remaining screws securing glove box panel (cluster lid B), Fig. 41, then remove glove box panel.

Disconnect wiring harness connectors to thermo control and relay.

6.

Remove bolts securing evaporator case, Fig. 42, and remove case.

7.

Carefully cut seal at upper and lower case joint, remove clips securing case, then separate case and remove evaporator assembly from lower case.

8.

Remove expansion valve temperature sensor from evaporator outlet, then disconnect and remove valve.

9.

Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:

a. Make sure that evaporator and thermostat temperature sensors are properly mounted.
b. Reseal case joints with a suitable sealer and install case as close as possible to heater unit.
c. If evaporator is flushed or replace, add 2.4 oz. of new refrigerant oil to system.
d. Evacuate and recharge system, then check for leaks.
