Evaporator Core: Service and Repair

    When replacing evaporator, add 2.7 oz. of new refrigerant oil on 300ZX or 2.4 oz. on all other models.

1.

Disconnect battery ground cable and discharge A/C system.

2.

Disconnect refrigerant lines to evaporator and plug lines and open fittings.

3.

Remove screws securing right hand lower dash panel and glove box and remove panels.

4.

Disconnect and remove right hand defroster and side defroster ducts and floor nozzle.

5.

Mark and disconnect vacuum hoses to blower housing and disconnect wiring harness connector to blower motor.

6.

Remove bolts securing blower housing, then remove housing assembly.

7.

Remove bolts securing evaporator case, then remove case assembly.

8.

Remove clips securing evaporator case, cut seal at case joint, then separate case.

9.

Lift evaporator assembly, Fig. 19, from case.

10.

Disconnect evaporator inlet rube, remove bolts securing expansion valve, then remove valve from housing.

11.

Remove bolts securing suction throttling valve, then remove valve from evaporator outlet.

12.

Reverse procedure to install, evacuate and recharge system, then check for leaks.
