Heater Core: Service and Repair

1.

Disconnect battery ground cable, place temperature control lever in HOT position, drain cooling system.

2.

On models with A/C, discharge A/C system, disconnect refrigerant lines to evaporator, then plug lines and open fittings.

3.

Remove A/C heater control as outlined in "Control Assembly, Replace."

4.

Remove screws securing glove box and remove glove box.

5.

Disconnect control cable or vacuum lines at air intake door control, and disconnect wiring harness connector to blower motor.

6.

Remove bolts securing air intake and blower housing, then remove housing assembly.

7.

On models with A/C, remove evaporator case as outlined in "Evaporator & Expansion Valve, Replace."

8.

Disconnect heater hoses at water valve inlet and heater core outlet, taking care not to drip coolant in passenger compartment.

9.

Remove bolts securing heater case, Fig. 26, then remove heater assembly.

10.

Remove screws securing water control valve, disconnect hose at heater core, then remove valve and hose.

11.

Remove clips securing heater case and separate case, then remove heater core.

12.

Reverse procedure to install.
