Auxiliary Air Valve (Idle Speed): Testing and Inspection

1. With engine cold, start engine and pinch rubber hose between throttle chamber and air regulator.
2. Engine speed should decrease during warm-up. After engine has warmed up, engine speed should remain unchanged when hose is pinched.
3. Disconnect wiring harness connector and connect an ohmmeter between the terminals on air regulator.
4. Ohmmeter should show continuity. If not air regulator is defective.
5. Disconnect hoses from both ends of air regulator. During engine warm-up, flap should be open. The flap closes once the engine has warmed up.
6. Check to see that flap operates smoothly. If not air regulator is defective.
