300ZX V6-2960cc 3.0L SOHC MFI (VG30E) (1988)
The switch receiver component is located in the rear luggage area, right hand side (Figures 1 & 2).
The following symptoms indicate a fault with the switch receiver component:

No Sound ^ One Channel Inoperative ^ Intermittent On/Off
TEST PROCEDURE:
1.
Remove radio head unit with harness connected.
2.
Disconnect DIN cable (from Switch Receiver Component) at rear of Radio Head Unit (Figure 3).
3.
Remove "short plug" from Switch Receiver.
4.
Connect the "short plug" to the receptor at rear of Radio Head Unit.
5.
Turn on radio and evaluate:
A.
If there is sound, the radio is OK. Indicates faulty Switch Receiver Component.
B.
If there is no sound, the Switch Receiver Component is OK. Indicates faulty Radio Head Unit.
6.
After diagnosis, be sure to reinstall the "short plug" at the Switch Receiver Component.
III. Alternator Whine
If alternator whine/engine noise is heard through the radio, especially at low volume, check the amplifier's mounting bolts (located under the passenger
seat) and retighten, if loose.
