Radiator Fan Thermal Switch: Service and Repair

TEMPERATURE SWITCH

Replace

    The temperature switch is located on left side of engine.

1.

Disconnect battery ground cable.

2.

Disconnect switch electrical connector, then remove switch.

3.

Reverse procedure to install. Torque switch to 7-8 ft. lbs.

Testing

1.

Remove switch as outlined above.

2.

Connect suitable ohmmeter across switch terminals, then immerse lower part of switch in water. Ohmmeter should indicate an open circuit.

3.

Heat water until temperature reaches approximately 212°F. Switch contacts should close and the ohmmeter should indicate continuity.

4.

If switch does not operate properly, replace it.

COOLING FAN MOTOR, REPLACE

1.

Disconnect battery ground cable.

2.

Disconnect fan motor electrical connector.

3.

Remove fan motor assembly attaching bolts, then the fan motor assembly.

4.

Reverse procedure to install.
