Fast Idle Control Device (F.I.C.D.): Description and Operation

    The electronic control unit prevents rough idle by sensing idle condition and transmitting a corresponding signal to the idle-up solenoid. On 200SX
models, the solenoid is actuated when battery voltage is less than 12 volts, air flow meter is malfunctioning, or load signal is on with engine speed less
than 1500 RPM. On 300ZX and 1985 and 1987-88 Maxima models, the solenoid is actuated when headlamp switch, cooling fan switch and/or rear
defogger and power steering oil pressure switch is on, when battery voltage is less than 12 volts, during engine start and for 20 seconds after engine start.
On 1986 Maxima models, the solenoid is also activated when the rear defogger switch and/or A/C switch is on and when engine speed is greater than
1300 RPM with the idle switch on.
