INSTALLATION PROCEDURE:

1.

Adjust "L" dimension on both tie rod ends as shown below. Be sure to torque tie rod end lock nuts to 58-72 ft.lbs.

2.

The steering gear must be centered before installation. Using a torque adapter tool (J26364) and a 3/8 breaker bar, turn steering gear to full lock.
While counting number of pinion turns, rotate gear to opposite lock. Divide number of pinion turns by 2. Center rack by rotating pinion backward
by that amount. Also, make sure steering wheel is centered and in a level position.

3.

Remove cylinder tube pressure line.

4.

Slide rack into position as removed.

5.

Reinstall right and left steering gear clamps. Torque 17 mm bolts to 29-36 ft.lbs.

NOTE:

Be sure right and left clamps are placed in their original positions. See illustration below.

6.

Reinstall cylinder tube pressure line.

NOTE:

Tighten fittings finger tight first.

7.

Reinstall breather hose retaining clips.

8.

Replace O-rings (soak with ATF before installation). Reinstall high pressure and return lines. (Tighten fittings finger tight first.)

9.

Remove 12 mm bolt from upper end of steering shaft and slide lower coupling onto pinion shaft. Reinstall 12 mm bolts at both ends of shaft.
Torque 12 mm bolts to 17-22 ft.lbs.

10.

Lower vehicle halfway down on hoist.

11.

Reinstall tie rod ends into knuckle arms and torque tie rod lock nuts to 58-72 ft.lbs. Install new cotter pins.

12.

Reinstall front wheels and torque wheel nuts to 72-87 ft.lbs.

13.

Lower vehicle until wheels are just above the floor. Connect the negative cable to battery terminal. Fill reservoir with Genuine Nissan ATF and
bleed system as follows:

a.

With engine off, quickly turn steering wheel from right lock to left lock seven to eight times or until fluid level in reservoir stops dropping
and air bubbles no longer appear in fluid. Be sure to add fluid to reservoir during this process to maintain proper fluid level.

b.

Start engine and let it idle for one minute. Rev engine under no load two or three times.

c.

With engine idling, quickly turn the steering wheel from right lock to left lock seven to eight times or until fluid level in reservoir stops
dropping and there are no more air bubbles in the fluid. If necessary, fill reservoir to proper fluid level.

CAUTION: Do not hold steering wheel against right or left lock for more than 15 seconds while bleeding.
