Sun Roof - Creaking/Popping Noise

SUN ROOF NOISE, 1982-1984 MAXIMA

SERVICE INFORMATION
Some 1982 - 1984 Maxima Sedans and Wagons with sun roofs may exhibit creaking and/or popping noises in two areas under the following conditions:

A.

Movement of the lid weatherstrip against the roof protector. The noise can be heard primarily with the sun roof closed when driving over a
rough surface.

B.

Movement of the sun roof frame against the steel locating pins. This noise can be heard when the sun roof is open or closed.

SERVICE PROCEDURES

Condition A

Remove the sun roof lid. Lubricate the sun roof lid weatherstrip where it contacts the roof opening with a silicone spray (Figure 1). Apply extra spray at
the rear portions of the weatherstrip that will come in contact with the roof protector.
Condition B

Plastic Bushing (P/N 73679-W1010) has been installed on vehicles manufactured after the applied dates shown below. Use the following service
procedure on vehicles manufactured through the applied date.

*"X" or "T" designations are found in the VIN, immediately before the six digit serial number.

NOTE:
The sun roof assembly should only be lowered, not removed for this procedure.
