Block Heater - Instructions For Installation

Block Heater Installation Instructions
Attached are updated block heater installation instructions for all Nissan/Datsun vehicles from 1974 through 1982. This list also includes the correct part
numbers for each application.
Please note that part number 99998-10250 is interchangeable with, and will supercede to, the newly established part number 99998-10253.

1.
Drain coolant and remove specified frost plug.
2.
Thoroughly clean frost plug hole removing any burrs, compound, paint or rough spots.
3.
Apply a coating of grease to the heater 'O' ring and machined surface of the hole in block. (To facilitate installation and prevent 'O' ring
damage).
4.
Back off heater nut as far as possible, holding heater with element pointing in proper direction and finger on end of screw, insert element and
one end of locking channel into frost plug hole per Figure No. 1. On heater 99998-10251 it would be inserted in the core hole the same as the
other heaters, but to ensure that the bolt head is in the channel, it should be pulled outward and turned so as to lock in the channel, then
proceed to tighten heater into position to 20 in. lbs. torque.
5.
Center heater in hole and press in. Tighten nut to (20) twenty inch pounds torque. See Figure No. 2.
6.
Install power cord and route to grille, taping where necessary to insure that cord does not touch engine, hot pipes, or any moving parts.
7.
Refill cooling system and operate engine to check for leeks.
The installation procedure for the F 10 block heater, Pan 1 Number 99998-10253 is as follows.
1.
Drain coolant.
2.
Remove the air cleaner. Disconnect the speedometer cable, the inlet and outlet hoses from the air pump.
3.
Using a mirror, a suitable punch and pliers, locate and remove the frost plug from the extreme LH side of the block (driver's side).
4.
Install the block heater.
5.
The power cord can be run from the front of the vehicle to the block heater by passing it through the clearance between engine and
transmission case. Secure the cord with an existing clamp.
WARNING! Before connecting heater to power source, make sure that the element is immersed in coolant.
