be three discoloration rings on inner diameter of rear housing. These rings are normal working marks and should not be considered reason for
rack assembly replacement.

Rotate pinion to center rack in steering gear. Punch mark on pinion shaft should face exactly toward rear of car (Figure 11).

Lift out pinion assembly, two thrust washers and thrust needle bearing from pinion housing (Figure 12).

Install New Parts As Follows:

Use Bushing and Needle bearing Remover J29369-1 (smallest one in set) to remove the old pinion housing oil seal (Figure 13).

Coat the new pinion oil seal with 'DEXRON Type' ATF and press in place with Pinion Seal Installer J28527 (Figure 14).
