At Position C in Figure 24, wrap second nylon band around tubes and hose (Figure 28).

Install steering column lower joint on pinion shaft and torque bolt to 32-38 N-m (24-28 ft.lbs.) (Figure 29). Tighten bolt at rubber coupling to
39-49 N-m (29-36 ft.lbs.). Distance "A" = 165.5 mm (6.52 in). Angle "B" = 20.26 degrees (Figure 30).

Torque steering gear mounting bracket bolts to 34-44 N-m (25-33 ft.lbs.).

Install tie rod ends. Torque nuts to 54-98 N-m (40-72 ft.lbs.) and install new cotter pins.

Lower vehicle, connect return hose to pump and tighten clamp. Connect pressure hose and torque flare nut to 39-49 N-m (29-36 ft.lbs.).

Fill system with hydraulic fluid and bleed

Raise front of vehicle until wheels clear the ground.

With engine off, quickly turn steering wheel from right lock to left lock, seven or eight times, or until fluid level in reservoir stops dropping
and air bubbles no longer appear in fluid.

Start engine and let it idle for a few minutes. Then rev engine under no load two or three times.

With engine idling, quickly turn steering wheel from right lock to left lock, seven or eight times, or until fluid level in reservoir stops
dropping and air bubbles no longer appear in fluid.

40.

While bleeding, do not hold steering wheel against right or left lock for more than 15 seconds.

The following measures also help reduce power steering judder and should also be performed.

41.

Set engine idle speed to upper end of specification listed in the appropriate Service Manual.

42.

Check front end alignment and correct if out of specification.

43.

Check tire pressures and inflate to specification: 28 psi (cold tire).
